Perfectible Harmony - home |
If "Perfect Harmony" did indeed bring our cosmos into existence by a conversion of
qualitative energy into quantitative energy, then we have grounds to consider that
the same fields, waves and energies of
Perfect Harmony that effected the
substance, energy, forces and laws of the cosmos also effected Life
and affects its evolution toward a state of
Perfected Harmony.
Evolving to "Perfect Harmony" may sound ludicris given the
state of the world today, but I don't want to go down that road and
end up on a soapbox talking about the evils of the modern world. What
I'd rather take a look at is the
evolution of mind, soul/consciousness and will.
"Perfect Harmony" as I've described it is a self-contained and self-perpetuating
qualitative state that is a relationship of pure consonance. It would need to be in a
constant state of creation. It can't maintain harmony, because to maintain implies that
whatever is being maintained has deviated from its perfect state. In order to create, one
has to understand every facet of what it is that's being created. One also needs to be sensitive
to every aspect what's being created's peak relative to every other aspect's apex. And finally one
needs the drive to persist until the creation is of the highest quality if one is to be satisfied with it.
Traditionally, mind has been associated with understanding, soul with feeling and will with drive.
It's also been tradition to think of mind/soul/will as a "dual nature" - only bestowed on human
beings - that somehow became attached to the body yet existing on a higher plane than the
body's physical nature. It's because of this duality that the evolutionary process focused
solely on the bodily nature and needed to postualte "natural selection" as the driving
mechanism of evolution instead of the will of a living entity. But what if the
initial spark of Life lighted a "micro-yen" for Harmony to regulate and,
coordinate the life processes while giving future direction to the cell?
After the Big Bang, "Perfect Harmony" would continue to extend
qualitative fields, waves and energies of harmony. Rather than build
into another singularity however, they would be affecting and energizing
created matter and Life. Inanimate matter through fundamental forces and
universal constants. Life through immaterial and insubstantial packets of qualia.
We currently attribute a microorganism's evolution (one to process carbon dioxide with
another evolving to process nitrogen compounds) to random mutations in their genetic code
which brought survival advantages. It think it makes more sense that they were affected by qualia.
As human beings, we know that chemical compounds can have a "taste". NACL for instance tastes salty.
One of the properties of NACL then is projecting a qualia of saltiness which in turn can elicit an
awareness of saltiness in a living entity. Whether I desire something salty or am repulsed by
the thought of salt is a reaction to the qualia of saltiness. What I do in response to the
qualia is a matter of will - mediated by how I feel and what I think about salt at that
moment. For humans, what we 'will to do' is also subject to rational thought. If
I know I have high blood pressure, for instance, I'll probably use less salt.
By regulating my salt intake, I'm maintaining the right balance of NACL in
proportion to all the other chemical compounds within my body to keep them in
harmony. There may be yens for all sorts of things, but the overall will of the whole
organism is for harmony. A single-cell microorganism has no competing yen within itself.
Only the yen for harmony and the yen for whatever qualia the chemicals it processes emit. At a
certain point, the raw materials a cell processes will become scarce while the byproducts it produced
would become abundant. These byproducts would also emit a different qualia. Obviously a cell producing
the byproduct would have an experience of that product's qualia. Less obvious is that they would also have
experienced the qualia of each intermedite step in converting the original material to the final products. Moreover,
they'd have working knowledge of which bits of genetic code effected each step of the process with its associated qualia.
This is an awful lot to take in, but at least I'm only bringing up general scientific concepts and appealing only to intuition
rather than the razzle dazzle of a rationalized yet obscure, overly complicated and convoluted mathematic. To me, it
makes more sense that Life evolved as a harmonic whole that drew out individuals rather than individual bits of
life blindly groping their way into the harmony of ecosystems. After all, ecosystems didn't come about until
well after the harmony of the biosphere evolved and stablized the planetary atmosphere. Quantum physics
is a means of rationalizing. Obviously it has a lot of merit but then so did Ptolemaic astronomy. For
thousands of years astronomers were able to account for and predict celestial occurrences. But as
we learned just a few hundred years ago, the cosmos followed a different ordering principle
than had been proposed. What quantum physics and evolution currenty propose is that
random occurences at a level far below that of atoms and at the atomic level of
individual cells are what effect the cosmos and Life. That does not leave
leave room for quality to affect things through even the slightest yen
for heightened quality. But is that what we experience in our own
lives and is that what we see throughout history? Bear in mind
that while the ideal is heightened quality for everyone, the
reality is typically just heightened quality for the few
atop the social pyramid without regard for nature.
This scheme is how we get the rise and fall
of civilizations and how we infringe on nature
until its will for harmony is either exhausted or
finds new expressions. The shift to agrarian societies
marked the beginning of our ability to significantly impact
the natural environment in order to support large social groups.
It is also the beginning of having to curb personal creativity and
freedom in order to serve the needs of the group - the beginnings of
social order taking precedence over natural order. Small hunter-gatherer
tribes naturally fall into harmony. Larger groups need to be impose unnatural
order upon the group in order for it to function. This is the point where human
beings began evolving to their own ideals rather than to harmony and in so doing
began effecting the evolution of everything humanity came into contact with. The new
capacity to impact evolution was not brought about by genetic mutations but by human will.
I don't see any need to list all of the problems not threatening, but actively working against the
survival of the human race. A change in human DNA is not going to save us but a change of
heart affecting a change of will might. I also think it's obvious that what we need to do is
stop competing with each other and come into harmony. Harmony amongst people puts
an end to racism, war and unequal distribution of wealth. Harmony with the planet
works toward ending pollution, global warming, extinction of species, etc.. And
that's the gist of perfectible harmony as the driving force of evolution. We can
see from our own unwilingness to strive toward "Perfect Harmony" that we
do not evolve as a branch of Life. We have instead become a tumor that
the rest of Life is evolving to cut out so that it can repair our damage
and return to evolving toward a body of "Perfected Harmony".
For Life that means starting from nearly scratch to evolve
a new species whose mind, soul/consciousness and will
is entirely oriented toward "Perfect Harmony" and
thus leading life into its ultimate destination as
a single body of Perfected Harmony in
relation to "Perfect Harmony".
