Perfectible Harmony - home |
Atoms came about from the strong and weak nuclear forces. Molecules from the
electromagnetic force and astrological objects from the gravitational force.
We're unaware of and uneffected by the nuclear forces in everyday life while
immersed in the gravitational force and continually influenced be the
electromagnetic ... if only by the ubiquitousness of electronic devices.
Physicists are just beginning to speculate on a fifth force beyond the four
known forces. The thought of a fifth force is too new for specific characteristics
to be agreed upon amongst the early theories, but from the little I've read it
seems to have an effect on gravity which would place it above the fundamental
interactive forces. What they're looking at are slight deviations from the
mathematics of accepted scientific theories and have no conception of
how they might be able to detect this speculated fifth force.
Maybe the problem is they're looking for a quantitative force. What if the
fifth force is a qualitative force? If they're already speculating that the
fifth force affects at least the gravitational force, then it may be fair to say
that what it's affecting is the quality of gravity. Let's think about that ...
... it doesn't effect gravity but it does affect it. That's not as outlandish as it sounds
since anyone who's ever been driven by passion or desire is familiar with affective forces.
Senses of obligation, conscience, patriotism, worship, love, or "what feels right"
are not quantitative forces, but they are most certainly prominent forces in
everyone's life. Each is qualitative force driving actions wherein the heart
seeks the highest possible state of the harmony of reason and intuition. Even
addictions or acts we know to be wrong are assented to by a heart that may be torn
but still sees the action as harmonic for that individual at that moment. I don't
intend to explore any of that at this time, but only want to make a point of harmony
being a qualitative force that everyone has intimitae knowledge of.
Having established that, it's no stretch to propose harmony as a fifth force
over and above the four known fundamental forces. Not too long ago, we had the
concept of the "Harmony of the Spheres". That went out the window when it was learned
that the earth was not the center of the universe and that the orbits of the spheres
were not perfect circles.
But why lose the concept?
The ancient world thought that the realm of the heavens above the earth was perfect
and since they also thought the circle was the perfect shape it makes sense that they'd
assume the orbits were circular until proven otherwise. There's no superstition involved.
To the naked eye, the trajectories of the celestial spheres appear to be arcs of a circle
and those observations could be supported by their mathematics so they had
a rational basis to substantiate their theory.
But the "Harmony of the Spheres" was about far more than circular orbits or the notion
that the Spheres' movement created a celestial music beyond the range of our hearing.
The concept started back when the objects appearing in the skies were thought to be the
dwelling place of the gods and the only place where "perfect forms" and "perfect motions"
could exist. Earthly, or bodiliy, manifestations may come close but could never be absolutely
pwefect. When the telescope revealed the planets to be material objects and their orbits to be
eliptical, the impact when far beyond the science of astronomy. Suddenly, the heavenly realm
was not something close by that we could see though never reach. If the gods and perfect ideals
material creation strived to reach were no longer just beyond the sky above, then where were they?
Maybe they never existed, humanity was just a freak occurance and we're out here on our own.
Science pursued the "no gods, just nature" angle while religion turned us to the inner eyes
and ears of our spiritual nature which created a schism between faith and science. The
theoretical fifth force is where the two can come together again. A qualitative force that
affects the four fundmantal quantitative forces could only be measured indirectly though
its affect on the effective forces. But a qualitative force is exactly what we sense with
our inner eyes and inner ears while knowing it in our hearts and cherishing it faith.
And as it turns out, science discoveries since Galileo's time actually confirm that the
elipical orbits about the sun are the perfect harmony of the spheres. Life on earth
would never have been possible if any of the orbits of the planets making up our solar system
were even slightly off from what they were when the system was formed and is today. The orbits
might not meet the ancient's ideal of perfection, but they would not have been around to have
ideals if the actual orbits hadn't been set and held in place by the fundamental forces
as perfectly as they were for those moments in time and space. It was the interaction of the
gravitational force acting amongst all the major objects within our solar system at once that
set them in their orbits. At least that's what within our ability to calculate. We tend to disregard
the minor and transient objects although they woule have also had and still have
very minor effects
which somehow get corrected rather than cumulatively degrade the orbits to the point of
dissolving them. What is their returning to their perfect state but a process of perfectibility?
And what is being perfected other than the quality of their paths? A quality that was necessary
for the instantiation of Life and is necessary for Life's continuance?
